START Conference

Students Taking Active Responsibility Today

The START Conference is a collaborative effort of Nichols College and SLTP to be held in June. The focus of this conference will be high school students who are completing their freshman year.  The intent will be to provide them with the necessary head start to effectively lead their student activities or school groups.

Among the strategies we will employ are interactive discussions with community, business and political leaders, as well as hands-on community service projects.

The need for effective student leaders in schools has never been more pronounced. Yet, the opportunities for students to engage in personal development have been disappearing rapidly since the turn of the century.

By taking advantage of the Nichols College areas of expertise – which are business education and leadership and combining that with SLTP’s areas of expertise – which are leadership instruction and student leadership, the START Conference will be an intense and unique introductory learning experience.

Every high school in Southern New England has been invited to send ONE freshman delegate. The only tuition required is a $25 fee to cover the costs of registration. All meals and overnight accommodations for the two day event are free of charge to the delegates. The event is being sponsored in its entirety by Nichols College and SLTP.

Registration is due by the end of January.

The Conference will be June 7-8, 2009.

Delegate registration is June 7th from 7:45am to 8:30 am at Shamie Dormitory.
