Curricular Edu-Linking

Connections are the mainstream of SLTP's methodology. Connections are the means of putting personal ownership of the lessons into action by both teacher and student. This means:

  • relating the lesson to the individual,
  • relating the lesson to other lessons,
  • relating the lesson to other activities and
  • relating the lesson to itself.

LTC BreakawayWhen students "relate" to a lesson and to one another - - then learning is optimized. To this end we do everything we can to EduLink both overtly and with subtlety.
To increase our staff ownership in the camp's lessons and affirmations, staffers must connect all of their personal contributions. The central idea is a linear connection from their personal lesson, through the lessons of their Breakaway, through their Magic Notes all the way to the Closing Circle comments. Locking these lessons together makes each lesson much more personal for both teacher and learner. The Affirmations contained in the Magic Notes become stronger, the wishes from the personal lesson are remembered, and the Gifts become much more meaningful AND more sincere. Each staffer develops a personal theme. They then connect that theme to the camp theme.

EduLinking Breakaways

As each staffer develops the lesson plan for their Breakaway, they strive to prepare that Breakaway to link to the fundamental lessons that will be taught in EACH of the other Breakaways. The best part of making the linkage is that both teacher and student will be seeing each lesson as part of the whole.

EduLinking Tasks & Activities

It all begins with knowing WHY. Once a teacher and student know the why, they can effectively LINK the lesson.

Here is one of the most true statements about SLTP: Every task and every activity is done for a reason.  If you know the why, then linking is smooth.  If you don't know why, then WHY HAVEN'T YOU ASKED?  Every element of the schedule has purpose; i.e. every large group activity is timed to occur in concert with the camp process. Tranquility themes, Achievement Night themes and Ambassador themes are all linked to the camp process.  The idea is to see beyond the surface. See what's really going on and when then occurs, EduLinking becomes very, very comfortable and learning increases dramatically.
