Choose to Lead

How do you know if you are a leader?

I am America...By even posing the question you are admitting that leadership is a decision people make.  Leadership is a choice.

Choose to lead.  Choose to lead today and everyday.

Make a difference. Contribute.  Choose to lead in your own style.  We are all different and your personal leadership style will be unique.

Why?  Well, as you choose to lead you will not only make a difference in the lives of others, but you will find that you will be making a major difference in your own life.  You will find your life being filled with magical memories, moments of laughter, love and perhaps even tears of joy.  You’ll be making a difference.

What difference?  That depends on you.  It depends on the organizations you join, it depends on your interests and it depends on your ability to learn.

You can make your school or your community a better place.  You can work on environmental issues.  You can work for animal rights.  You can become politically involved.  There are NO limits.  What you do is up to you.  Once again the choice is yours.  There are lots of differences that CAN be made.

But words are not just spoken,

Words are chosen.

We use a language; but that language is not merely words,

Our language is the unique way we choose to be in the world.

When you choose to lead, you choose to take a stand.  The associations and friends you make through SLTP will provide you with the strength to stand, even if you must stand alone.

When you choose to lead, you’ll find it easier if you accept two truths. First, leadership is a set of skills that can be learned.  Leaders are not born.  Leadership is a choice.  Leadership ability can be defined as “people skills.”

Second, mastering leadership skills is a life long pursuit.  Skills must be continually practiced, and practice does not make perfect.  Practice makes permanent.  Only perfect practice makes perfect.

Congratulations on your choice to lead.  As Dr. Seuss suggested “you’re off to great places, you’re off and away . . .”
